Key observations

What the complete August window shows

Price direction

53.6%of observed changes were increases

Price increases were slightly more common than decreases.

1,325 observed valid changes were increases (53.6%), compared with 1,148 decreases (46.4%). The median absolute adjustment was 17.2%, with a P25 of 6.6% and a P75 of 29.1%. This describes the included monitoring cohort across complete August; it does not explain why a price changed.

Markdown persistence

424markdown episodes later reached or exceeded their prior observed price

Continuous event chains showed both near-baseline returns and above-baseline recoveries.

Of 1,130 detected markdown episodes, 115 later returned within 1% of their prior observed price and 309 later moved above it in a continuous same-product event chain. Another 44 showed a partial upward move, and 16 included a further markdown. These are confirmed observed event paths, not a persistence or reversion rate. Among confirmed recoveries, these outcomes are mutually exclusive: 115 returned to within 1% of the prior observed price, while 309 moved above it.

  3. INR 1,227INR 1,229

Observed outcome

Partial upward move observed.

Further markdown was also observed; persistence beyond this event chain is censored.

Still-lower persistence is not estimated. The remaining 706 episodes had no confirmed recovery by the report window, but no-event intervals are not treated as proof that a product remained observed at a lower price. There were 112 confirmed returns within 7 observed calendar days; no 7-day reversion rate is reported because the required complete follow-up denominator is unavailable.

Batch size

71%of batches affected five or fewer products

Most observed batches were small, alongside a limited number of large updates.

The median batch affected 2 products and the P75 batch size was 8. Of 135 batches, 52 affected 1 product, 44 affected 2–5, 24 affected 6–20, and 15 affected 21 or more products.

Weekly pricing rhythm

16.3pricing batches per 100 successful storefront-days on Tuesday

Tuesday and Friday formed the two strongest observed pricing-activity peaks.

Tuesday recorded 29 pricing batches across 178 successful storefront-days (16.3 per 100) and 15 active storefronts. Friday recorded 28 batches across 180 storefront-days (15.6 per 100) and 14 active storefronts. Both were ahead of the next-highest day, Thursday (12.4 per 100). Rates use U.S. Eastern Time and adjust for different successful crawl opportunities by weekday.

Product-level price-change events by day of week

Increase and decrease event rates per 100 successful storefront-days

Increase Decrease
This chart shows product-level event rates. Large batches can amplify these rates; batch-frequency peaks are reported above: Tuesday was 16.3 and Friday 15.6 pricing batches per 100 successful storefront-days. Successful storefront-day coverage was 178–213 per day.

Friday’s product-level changes skewed upward (251 increases, 39 decreases) and that difference also appeared at batch level: 17 increase-only, 7 decrease-only, and 4 mixed batches across 14 storefronts. Thursday’s product-level changes skewed downward (65 increases, 201 decreases), but its batch direction was more balanced (8 increase-only, 10 decrease-only, 4 mixed), so this report does not characterize Thursday as a broad decline day. These are detected distributions, not evidence of merchant scheduling intent.

Methodology

How the report is scoped

  • The cohort includes monitored Shopify storefronts meeting the 21-day successful-crawl coverage threshold for this window.
  • Each valid change requires a successful matching source run, positive comparable prices, and matching non-empty currency.
  • Price-ratio cleaning excludes extreme observations; pricing batches group final valid price changes by storefront and source run.
  • Report-window membership uses the stored event_date; detected_at is used only for weekday and month-position fields in U.S. Eastern Time (America/New_York).
  • Successful crawl dates use finished_at converted to U.S. Eastern Time (America/New_York), so cohort coverage and timing denominators use the same calendar boundary.
  • Weekly pricing rates use successful sync-run storefront-days as the denominator. A storefront-day is counted when an included storefront has at least one successful source run on that U.S. Eastern calendar date. Increase and decrease event rates are reported separately; batch direction is reported separately so a large batch remains one batch.
  • Markdown episodes use continuous same-product price-change event chains. A return within 1% of the episode baseline is a confirmed near-baseline reversion; a later price above baseline is reported separately. No-event intervals are not treated as continued product observation, so still-lower persistence and a complete 7-day reversion rate are not estimated.
  • The report describes observed changes in this included cohort only. It does not infer commercial intent or claim market-wide behavior.
